CPS’ solar fee tabled – San Antonio Express-News
CPS Energy has dropped its proposed fees for solar customers — either for the time being or altogether.
The utility detailed the proposal for the City Council last week, with council members raising concerns about whether the fees would discourage residents and businesses from installing rooftop solar panels. The council asked for more time to consider the proposal.
Utility CEO Doyle Beneby said CPS wouldn't return to the city with a proposal until after the council's July recess at the earliest. Part of the reason is the churn at City Hall resulting from Mayor Julián Castro's pending appointment as secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department.
“It was just a sense that with political change coming — in terms of selecting the interim mayor — now is not the optimum time to have this on the council agenda,” Beneby said.
“When we do go back to council, we need to take a different approach,” he added, declining to elaborate.
